MASTERCLASSES
Following the success of the Masterclasses which we introduced at the 2005 Gathering you will find new Masterclasses each year, these are held on the Sunday of the weekend as before. These courses are longer in duration, cover more in depth and can only be booked in advance. To avoid disappointment book early because numbers are limited.
NOTE: Last chance to book Masterclass tickets in advance by Friday 23rd August 2008, and if there are any remaining places these will be available at the front desk on Saturday 30th August 2008, these will be sold on a first come first served basis.
These are the Masterclasses we ran at the 2007 Gathering, we expect some of these to be available at the 2008 Gathering along with some NEW ones too!
LESS IS MORE - hope for everything, expect nothing
When we travel in this way we are able to move lightly across the land and blend into the nature: if our well being supposes who we think we are then we begin at a totally different place then that thought of who we have the potential to be.
By travelling lightly we must try to be out of ‘control’ of daily events and immerse ourselves in ‘being part’ of them. This may seem contrary to what we have been taught in the past – humans are superior, humans can do things that other species are not able to do. Yes, this is true but can also hold us back, and hold us back it will. Like the person who says ‘Why not just take matches and a can of fuel?’ Why not indeed?… but this misses the point entirely. Taking less means you can enjoy more. You must trust yourself that that you will be able to cope with whatever you will experience – it may be easy, it may test you, whether you have the skills (if you have be practicing/training) or not to cope with any eventuality.
This masterclass will enable you to question your everyday practices and grow to be freer and safer with the wilderness.
INSTRUCTOR - Jeremy Hastings

TRACKING - phase method and zone technique
Tracking to the next level using the phase method and zoneing technique to get you closer. You will practise and learn the phase and zone tracking technique that will greatly improve your awareness and tracking ability. Once mastered we will apply these methods in a practical exercise tracking wildlife at the gathering.
Those that know Max will know that he has a deep respect for most things, he believes that tracking is his tool, the outdoors his office and that bushcraft and campcraft provide his home and are the bus to work. He believes that tracking and bushcraft are inextricably joined. His methods of tracking are an alloy of skills and knowledge from around the world. His methods of teaching tracking are unconventional, they will excite you and bring you and your environment closer together.
